After Bath – EF is the artist Chau Ming Beck’s reimagining of her original large oil painting, “After Bath – ON,” enhanced through computer processing. The original artwork depicted the post-bathing scene of Yang Yuhuan, the imperial consort of Emperor Xuanzong during the Tang Dynasty, primarily in black and white. In the enhanced version, vibrant hues of red, green, and blue have been infused, creating an artistic visual reminiscent of angels just emerged from a bath, gazing down at Earth as if curious about humanity’s existence amid the resplendent cosmic nebula.
The central inscription in ancient seal script, “贵妃出浴” (“Consort Bathing”), adds a vivid emotional touch to the entire composition. The characters seem to dance across the canvas, resembling an ancient scroll, exuding a unique charm. This inscription is not merely a simple description of the scene but also a masterstroke infusing emotions into the entire narrative. It allows viewers to feel the tranquility and grace of the consort after her bath amidst the brilliance of the colors.
